At the end of the day, we all want one thing for our doggers: to keep
them healthy and happy (okay, so maybe that's two things). That's why
we use only the finest human-grade ingredients available on the planet
to make our products. We believe dogs should not only eat healthy but
they should also treat healthy. And they can. It all starts with a
proper diet, plenty of exercise, lots and lots of love, and, of course,
our very own jowl-drooling, hound-healthy, doggone good carob dog
treats. Every treat we make is packed with all the wholesome foods and
nutrients below:
Whole-wheat
flour
Made from nutrient-rich bran and wheat germ - both great sources of
protein, minerals, B vitamins, fiber, and carbohydrates - whole-wheat
flour contains less saturated and unsaturated fat than enriched white
flour. Whole-wheat flour also contains an assortment of phytonutrients,
beneficial antioxidants that are naturally found in plant foods.
Feeding your dog whole grains, such as whole-wheat flour, can help them
maintain a hound-healthy cardiovascular system and reduce the risk of
cancer and diabetes.
Carrots
Packed with beta-carotene (provitamin A), carrots are the most famous
phytonutrient for which substantial evidence exists to suggest strong
cancer and heart disease preventive effects. Carrots are rich in
vitamins, enzymes, and are a good source of fiber. Carrot also contains
42 health-benefiting molecules, including carotenoids, coumarins,
flavonoids, terpenes, phenolic acids, phthalides, and polyacetylenes.
Best of all, the natural-sweet taste of carrot is what dogs crave.
- Phytonutrients
(or, as we like to say, fido-nutrients): These beneficial non-toxic
chemical compounds are naturally found in plant foods (phyto means
"plant" in Greek). As powerful antioxidants, they help dogs (and
humans) fight against toxins found in everything from foods to
pollution to many other free radicals. Go fido-nutrients!
- Vitamin
A: Better known as beta-carotine, vitamin A is important
for proper vision, healthy skin and coat, mucous membranes, and normal
bone and teeth development. That's "A" for awesome!
- Fiber:
Long associated with regularity, fiber is also known to reduce the risk
of some types of cancer and promote cardiovascular health. In addition,
high fiber diets help control blood glucose and reduce the risk of
digestive disorders. It's hound-healthy, for sure.
- Minerals:
Calcium, phosphorus, potassium, magnesium, iron, zinc, copper,
selenium, manganese, iodine, molybdenum, and chromium are essential
minerals for the growth of bones, teeth, and soft tissue. They provide
critical support to muscle, blood, and nerve cells. Mmm-mm-good
minerals!
Wheat germ
Did you know that the "germ" is the most nutritionally dense part of
the wheat kernel? It's packed with protein, fiber, polyunsaturated fat,
vitamins, and minerals (see below). Plus, it contains very little of
the sticky gluten protein to which many dogs (and humans) with wheat
allergy react. No need for sniffling or sneezing here.
- Vitamin
E: Wheat germ also provides the highest food levels of
vitamin E complex, including all three tocopherols, the natural
antioxidants that help prevent heart disease, cancer, and aging.
Vitamin E also helps protect the muscles, blood, lungs, and eyes;
prevent blood clots; and strengthen the immune system. It's E-xcellent
stuff.
- B
Vitamins: Wheat germ is one of highest foods containing
B-complex vitamins, which are good for metabolism & handling
stress. It is especially high in B-6 and folic acid, which helps lower
stress. B vitamins are needed for energy, digestion, nerves, muscles,
skin and coat, organs, growth, repair of tissues, and more. Next to
liver, wheat germ has more B-Complex than any other food. Sure, most
doggers would take the liver, but B is still lip-smackin', life-livin'
good.
- Vitamin
A: Better known as beta-carotene, vitamin A is important
for proper vision, healthy skin and coat, mucous membranes, and normal
bone and teeth development. A+ in our book.
- Octacosanol:
Wheat germ is the highest food source containing Octacosanol, a group
of long-chain food molecules that benefit the body in many ways, such
as:
- Lower blood levels of cholesterol
- Improve energy storage in muscles
- Enhance performance, endurance, and
stamina
- Quicken reflexes
- Spark alertness
- Improve oxygen utilization
- Balance metabolism
- Increase ability to handle stress
Carob chips/powder
Carob is a member of the legume (pea) family. It's a healthy
alternative to chocolate. You see, unlike chocolate, carob is low in
fat and calories. What's more, it's free from the stimulants of
caffeine and theobromine, two toxins that can be fatal to some dogs.
Rich in protein (80%) and vitamins like A, B1, B2, B3, and D, as well
as minerals like calcium, phosphorus, potassium, magnesium, and iron,
carob provides as much vitamin B1 as asparagus, the same amount of
niacin as lima beans, lentils, or peas, and more vitamin A than
eggplant, asparagus, and beets. And who said Rover wouldn't get his
vegetables?
- Vitamin
A: Better known as beta-carotene, vitamin A is important
for proper vision, healthy skin and coat, mucous membranes, and normal
bone and teeth development. An a+ for the A.
- B
Vitamins: Bs are essential for healthy neuronal
functioning, stress management, and healthy mood and mental clarity.
Additionally, they participate in production of adrenal hormones and
the formation of antibodies and red blood cells to help promote healthy
blood, skin and coat, and eyes.
- Vitamin
D: Helps build and maintain strong healthy bones and
teeth, supports a healthy nervous system, and keeps the heart
functioning properly.
- Calcium/Phosphorus:
Crucial for the structure and strength of teeth and bones. Calcium is
also needed for the normal clotting of blood and for nerve and muscle
function. Phosphorus is involved in the storage and transfer of energy
in the body.
- Potassium:
Necessary for energy metabolism, nerve and muscle function, and the
control of the osmotic balance of body fluids
- Magnesium:
Beneficial for healthy bones and teeth, for the normal day to day
functioning of the heart, muscle, and nervous tissue, and also involved
in many enzyme reactions in the body.
- Iron:
Present in the blood and muscle, as well as in enzymes involved in cell
respiration, iron deficiency can cause weakness, fatigue, and weight
loss in your pooch.
Lots and lots of
love
This is one ingredient we just couldn't overlook. You see, we love what
we do - and we love it when dogs love us back. It's why we hand-mix,
roll, cut, bake, and package every treat (and we mean every single one)
with one thing in mind - the love of doggers everywhere.
